Published on October 13, 2022 by Michelle Berney

Medicare’s annual election period runs from October 15-Dcember 7.This is an important time to review Medicare coverage for the following year.BPLC has prepared listings of Medicare Part D plans that work with Original Medicare in New York State, as well as Medicare Advantage plans that include all Part A and Part B benefits, and most also include Part D in New York City. Plan listings incorporate the star ratings that CMS assigns to each plan.PDP ratings range from 2 – 3.5 stars.Medicare Advantage plan ratings range from 2.5 - 4.5 (though there is only one plan with a 4.5 star rating).

Medicare beneficiaries with Extra Help/Low Income Subsidy Program (LIS) need to know that there are only 3 benchmark PDP plans this year - SilverScript Choice (PDP); Cigna Secure Rx (PDP); and Wellcare Classic (PDP).

Humana Basic Rx plan is no longer a benchmark plan in 2023; those with full LIS who remain in this plan will have to pay an additional $3.50/month for this coverage. Click here for a listing of PDP plans for 2023.

Caution for Medicare beneficiaries with union/retiree health benefits: Individuals with retiree/union health benefits should not make any changes to their coverage without speaking to their union/former employer to understand the implications of any changes to their union/retiree health benefits.
