NYS Homes and Community Renewal’s Residential Emergency Services to Offer Repairs to the Elderly (RESTORE) program provides financial assistance for senior homeowners to make repairs that allow them to continue living independently in their homes. Governor Hochul signed legislation in August 2022 increasing the July-August 2022 Page 6 Benefits Plus E-Newsletter amount of time to complete repairs to 60 days, previously 14 days, and increasing the maximum cost allowed per project to $20,000 from $10,000.

To qualify for the RESTORE program, applicants must:

  • Own and occupy as a primary residence the residential unit receiving assistance AND • Be sixty years of age or older AND
  • Have household income that does not to exceed 100% of the area median income.

RESTORE financial assistance may be used to complete emergency repairs or code violations in the home. An eligible emergency repair eliminates a hazardous condition or deficiency that poses an immediate threat to the life, health or safety of the elderly homeowner.
