Final Extension of the Public Health Emergency (May 11, 2023)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration for another 90 days effective February 9, 2023. This will be the final extension of the COVID-19 pandemic. The states will have these last 90 days to prepare for the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency, which will conclude on May 11, 2023.

The public health emergency enabled the government to provide COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines at no charge, as well as offer enhanced social safety net benefits, to help cope with the pandemic and minimize its impact.

HHS initially declared the Corona Virus a public health emergency on January 31, 2020. It has been extended since that time.
