NYC Extends ‘No Lawsuit Required’ for FHEPS and CityFHEPS Applications

The NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA) has extended the temporary policy change of not requiring a housing court case for eligibility of FHEPS (Family Homelessness & Eviction Prevention Supplement) and CityFHEPS (City Fighting Homelessness & Eviction Prevention Supplement) to December 31, 2023.

Households in the community at risk of homelessness (that is, not residing in a shelter) may be eligible for FHEPS or CityFHEPS without the need for an eviction case in Housing Court if their landlord has made a written rent demand or given the tenant a letter threatening to evict. The household will have to provide the written rent demand or written threat of eviction along with their FHEPS or CityFHEPS application.

All other eligibility criteria remain the same and will have to be met.
