Applications for 2-K programs open from June 2 – 26, 2026!

Published on June 2, 2026 by Leslie Bailey

Parents/guardians can apply for 2-K for the 2026-2027 school year between June 2 – 26, 2026.  To apply online, login or create an account in MySchools; one can also get help by calling 718-935-2009, or visiting one of the city's Family Welcome Centers. NYC Public Schools created a guide to help with the application that can be found here.

The priority districts that will receive free 2-K seats this fall are:

  • School District 6: Washington Heights, Inwood and Hamilton Heights

  • School District 10: Fordham, Belmont, Norwood, Marble Hill, Morris Heights, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, Van Cortlandt Village, Kingsbridge as well as parts of Kingsbridge Heights, Bedford Park, Mount Hope, Claremont-Bathgate and East Tremont

  • School Districts 18 and 23: Canarsie, Rugby-Remsen Village, Brownsville, Ocean Hill as well as parts of East Flatbush- Farragut

  • School District 27: Ozone Park, South Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Woodhaven, Howard Beach and the Rockaways, as well as parts Lindenwood and Springfield Gardens North

Program Options

There are two options for 2-K. The main difference is the setting and when children can begin school.

  • NYC Early Education Centers (NYCEECs): These are daycares, private schools, and other community programs that offer 2-K. Children must be 2 years old before they can start attending. (Example: If a child turns 2 on October 5 and the school year has already started, the child cannot begin attending the program until October 5, their second birthday.)

  • Family Child Care (FCC): These are 2-K programs run in a licensed provider's home. Children can start on the first day of school, even if they turn 2 later in the fall.

Use MySchools, to decide which program works best as part of the application.
