Expanded Access to NYC Fair Fares: Increased Income Guidelines
Effective Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the income guideline for the NYC Fair Fares program has increased from 120% FPL to 145% FPL, expanding access to more households.
The program provides a 50% discount on public transportation to eligible low-income New Yorkers.
New York City (NYC) residents may be eligible for Fair Fares NYC if they are:
Between the ages of 18 and 64;
In a household that meets the income guidelines (145% FPL) for the Fair Fares NYC program;
Not receiving full carfare from the Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration (DSS/HRA) or any other NYC agency; and,
Not currently participating or eligible to participate in any other transportation discount program.
Using Fair Fares
To use Fair Fares, eligible individuals will receive a Fair Fares NYC MetroCard which can be used on the subway and eligible bus fares. Pay-Per-Ride, 7-Day (Weekly) and 30-Day (Monthly) Unlimited Ride options are all available for those using the Fair Fares MetroCard on subways and eligible buses.
