NYCPS Admissions Timeline for 2027-2028 School Year

Published on November 3, 2026 by Willa Sippel

New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) has released its admissions timeline for the 2027-2028 school year:

  • Application for Kindergarten: December 9, 2026, through January 22, 2027

    • Offers Released: March 30, 2027

  • Application for 3-K and Pre-K: January 13, 2027, through Friday, February 26, 2027.

    • 3-K Offers Released: May 18, 2027

      • Pre-K Offers Released: May 11, 2026

  • Application for 2-K: No official date yet.

Families can apply online at MySchools during the application period and choose as many programs as they’d like, including those outside of their zoned school district. However, some programs may have admission priorities. Families should rank schools in order of personal preference. There are no income-based eligibility requirements; if a child is age-eligible and a New York City resident, they can enroll in a school day program.

Children will receive offers based on the dates indicated above.

Families can also apply by phone at (718) 935-2009 or in person at a Family Welcome Center.

Preparing Now

Families should create a MySchools account now if they do not already have one and begin to identify programs that fit their needs.  Families are encouraged to visit the program location as well.

When selecting a program, it’s important to identify any preferences, including the type of program or “setting.”  NYCPS offers four main settings for its early childhood programs:

  • District Schools (public schools)

  • New York City Early Education Centers (NYCEECs)

  • Family Child Care programs

  • Pre-K Centers

MySchools allows families to filter by setting, accessibility, language, and other criteria.

For families seeking care year-round and for up to 10 hours a day, consider City Transitional and Extended Day and Year (EDY) seats which are also administered by NYCPS.  Please note that for EDY, families can locate programs via MySchools but will need to apply through MyCity.
