SNAP Changes 2024-2025

Effective October 1, 2024, the following changes have been made to the SNAP program:

  • Increase in the income guidelines, click here for a full chart of the updated income guidelines.

  • Slight increase to the benefit amount,

  • Increase in certain deductions: the shelter cap, as well as the homeless deduction have increased.

Increase in SNAP Resource Limits

Not all households are subject to the resource test for SNAP.  The following households are subject to test: 1) households with a member who is either disqualified from the SNAP program because of an intentional program violation (IPV) or a sanction, or 2) households with a member who is 60 years of age or older or disabled, whose gross income exceeds 200% of the FPL.

SNAP resource limits as of October 1, 2024:

  • A household without a member age 60+ or disabled member: $3,000

  • A household WITH a member age 60+ or disabled member: $4,500

Able-Bodied Adults without Dependent Children (ABAWD) Reminder

A statewide waiver of ABAWD work requirements is still in effect through February 28, 2025. For details go to https://otda.ny.gov/policy/gis/2023/23DC067.pdf.
